Dilapidation Surveys

A Road Dilapidation Survey is an inspection of a road, both before and after an event, to identify changes, if any, in that road, its markings, signage and other related artefacts, which may have been caused by that event. For example, construction occurring on adjacent land can have an impact on the condition of the road.

A Dilapidation Survey conducted before and after the construction work is vital input to asset management risk.

Construction projects could include highway widening affecting residential roads, major commercial developments, rail works, airport upgrade projects, tunnelling or any works where the road/s will carry construction vehicles and may deteriorate and require repair at the completion of the construction project.

The cost of that repair—and who pays for it—is an important question.

Good quality data and a logical, well-prepared engineering survey, are critical to the process of assigning responsibility for such repairs. To mediate and expedite resolution of costly claims, there must at least be a good-quality video image of ‘before’ and ‘after’ the event causing deterioration. A quality data set, including high-resolution imaging, which demonstrates the ‘before’ and ‘after’ condition of the asset, can mediate and expedite resolution of costly claims.
